Summer foods cooking on grillLet’s face it, summer hasn’t been the same since you lost your teeth. Not only do you feel insecure about your appearance, but you’ve also had to miss eating many of your favorite seasonal foods, like steak. Thankfully, this summer will be different because you’ve replaced your missing teeth with dental implants in Kansas City. That’s great! You can indulge in a variety of tasty meals because you’ve regained 70% of your natural biting force. Although your new teeth will feel real, here are 4 tips to make eating summer foods easier.

1. Skip hot dogs to avoid gum disease.

Backyards across American will fire up the grill this summer to enjoy juicy hot dogs. Although they are favorites at family barbeques and pool parties, they contain a lot of processed saturated fats, which can irritate the gum tissue. In some cases, it can even lead to gum disease and increase your risk of dental implant failure. You can protect your investment by limiting how often you eat them.

2. Take your corn off the cob.

Besides kernels getting stuck between your teeth, nothing tastes better on a warm day than sweet, buttery corn on the cob. Unfortunately, the kernels can also get trapped around your dental implants, which can be difficult to remove. Your implant dentist will recommend cutting the corn off the cob to safeguard your smile.

3. Choose water instead of sugary drinks.

You know you’re supposed to avoid sugar to prevent cavities, but your dental implants aren’t vulnerable to decay. That doesn’t mean it’s safe to consume soda, juices, and sports drinks regularly. A cool glass of soda or lemonade is refreshing, but they contain plenty of sugar and syrups. The sugars can erode your dental implants over time. It is always better to choose water to promote the lifespan of your new smile. You’ll stay hydrated while also encouraging a healthy smile.

4. Cut your food into smaller pieces.

You can eat a variety of foods, including chewy meats. While you can eat chewy foods, they can put added pressure on your dental implants because of the amount of work they must do to grind the meat before you can swallow it. Cutting your food into smaller pieces will make it easier to chew, especially tough meats. If possible, choose ground or slow-cooked meats because they’ll cause less wear and tear on your dental implants.

With a few precautions, you can make the most of summer and enjoy your favorite meals without compromising your dental implants. Don’t forget to brush and floss when you’re finished to ensure your smile lasts for decades.
